COMPASSION IN ACTION

Thirty days after Russian military forces invaded Ukraine, MERCY directors Nick and Denise Bordieri boarded a flight to Warsaw, Poland. There they joined the humanitarian efforts to provide food and shelter for thousands of women and young children crossing the border into the city every day.

Several days later under cover of darkness, Nick led a team of  brave MERCY volunteers willing to risk their lives to travel by rail to Lviv, Ukraine to assist evacuation efforts in that great city. Although they would be the last to admit it, Nick and Denise are heroes. I am honored to call them my friends.

Kasprzaka: “Hugs, hopes and dreams.”

Recently my son Jason had the privilege to serve as a MERCY volunteer at the Kasprzaka Refugee Center in Warsaw. During his brief eight-day stay,  Jason did whatever he could to put smiles on the faces of children who had been forced to leave everything behind, including older brothers and fathers, and flee from their war-ravaged homeland. There were tears, hugs, and laughter. And there was hope. It was a life-changing experience for my son, one he will never forget.
